A team of four (4) experienced general surgeons work to cover seven (7) days a week. General surgery outpatient clinics are available every day from 7h30 to 6h00 pm. The surgeons take care of patients presenting with conditions such as goiter, breast disease, hernias, hemorrhoids, gall stones, varicose veins, acute appendicitis and others. Patients are offered different treatments options including Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) with laparoscopy or treatment of varicose veins with radiofrequency ablation.
Most of the general surgery conditions (60%) are treated as ambulatory surgery or Day Surgery. The patient is admitted, operated on and discharged on the same day. The medical cost is substantially less for both the patient and the insurance. There is also a better turn over because the hospital has an efficient use of hospital beds.
In most developed countries ambulatory surgery is now considered the best option for over 60% of elective surgical operations providing a safe, high quality and cost-effective approach. BCSH always implement the ambulatory surgery strategy in order to cut down on the medical costs for the patients.
